I will teach an online section and a Monday evening classroom section of IS 6700 7010 in Fall 2008 at Hawaii Pacific University.
The course objectives will remain the same, and the course will fill degree requirements as appropriate.
Weekly pages
These pages are linked from WebCT, and are available here. They’re lists of articles and topics I mentioned in my sections. I use Tuesdays as the due dates in this course, as the f2f section meets Tuesday evenings.
Check the WebCT section’s Learning Modules tab and the Resources folder for additional readings and links each week.
Syllabus
I have posted a syllabus for the Fall 2008 sections here
.
There is a written assignment due almost every week.
The course includes a final exam.
I rarely give multiple choice or objective exams.
I assign textbook cases as reading assignments. There are several blog articles that accompany each case.
Web sites and services
This is a course about how organizations can use technology to develop sustainable competitive advantage in their markets. During the course, students use several different web sites and services, to develop practical experience in using these technologies.
billso.com is my blog and web site, and I have been posting readings and assignment announcements there. The blog is open to the public, and can be accessed on many PDAs and mobile phones.
WebCT is my grade and assignment management system.
HPU’s web page for the Fall 2008 academic calendar.
http://billso.com/courses/tech/ will retrieve every blog post that is relevant to the IS 6700 course.
Textbook
We’re using Strategic Dynamics by Burgelman and Grove as the course textbook. We’ve used this book since January 2007.
