As we start the university school year in North America, more students are buying and using Macs and iPhones. In a few cases, universities are giving freshman students Apple hardware. 9to5mac has an excellent article on this trend called iPhone takes a seat across university campuses. Jonathan D. Glater also discussed university Mac adoption in his New York Times article called Welcome Freshman. Have an iPod.
With the high cost of gas, fewer students are driving themselves to campus.
Will fewer students be tempted to use their iPhones and iPod Touches as heads-up video displays in their automobiles, as shown in jiggymatt’s YouTube video called “Heads Up” iPhone Display and discussed in a bookofjoe article called ‘It’s great - I can watch my stuff while I’m driving’?
If you’re dumb enough to watch videos while you’re driving, you probably shouldn’t be going to college.

For the last few months, I’ve been involved in Charles Wankel’s latest crowdsourcing project. He’s leading a team of several hundred managers and scholars who will contribute to Managing Through Collaboration. The paper edition of the book will be published in January 2010 by Routledge.
I’m editing Chapter 22 on information technology and e-business. Almost 400 of the contributors are at the Academy of Management meeting in Anaheim, and I’ve participated in several editor and chapter team meetings during the conference.
I’m also working on social media and a blog to support the project. Many of us are on LinnkedIn and Facebook, and I’m setting up a FriendFeed room for the project.

I’m flying to Anaheim this evening for the annual Academy of Management conference, along with 10,000 other management professors.
I’ll resume my daily blog posts on Monday, 18 August 2008. It’s not like there’s a daily quota or anything… although I’ve been posting an article a day for a while now. (See Relax, Bloggers: Nobody Is Keeping Score, and There’s No Quota.)
In the meantime, I’ll be on email, Facebook, FriendFeed and my other haunts.

As I mentioned yesterday here on billso.com, there was a Manoa Geeks meeting last night at the HMSA building. It was a big turnout - they ran out of seats and pizza!
PodCamp Hawaii was mentioned several times. I’ll be at that event on 24 and 25 October 2008, mostly in the WordCamp track.
Here’s a video interview that Burt Lum shot with his mobile phone and uploaded immediately afterwards to the Web. He’s talking with Jamie Hatch, and I pop up a bit later in the video.
