The dawn of the video resume

by billso on Thursday, 14 January 2010

It’s inevitable that job seekers and graduating students will use more sophisticated methods in their job search. Case in point: the video resume.

I see more and more undergraduates who edit their own videos — it’s as easy and natural for them do so as writing a paper.

I assume that some people got the idea of a video resume from Elle Woods in the movie Legally Blonde. In 2001, this was good for a laugh. In 2010, thanks to YouTube, blogging and Flash, the video resume may become an essential job search tool.

A quick Google search on “video resume” produced over 123,000 results.

Brian Krueger’s brief piece on video resume etiquette has some basic, common sense tips that are helpful.

Finally, About.com has its own page on video resume tips, including production.

    1. “Running Head:” (on the first page)

    2. No “Running Head:” (on consecutive pages)

Lit Review — first draft is due tomorrow.… What is my dissertation “title” you ask?? *smile*
