For billso.com readers who live in Hawaii and use television antennas for their reception, today (Monday, 15 December 2008) is a great opportunity to test your televisions for the upcoming digital conversion. Just tune into channel 9 between 4:30 am and 10:30 pm.
If a crawl appears on the bottom of your screen, you’ll need to get a converter box, or subscribe to cable or satellite service. If you already have cable or satellite service and you see that warning crawl, you may need a replacement converter box from your television provider.
While most of the mainland’s broadcasters will switch to DTV on 17 February 2009, almost all of the state of Hawaii will switch on 15 January 2009. Viewers on Kauai will continue to receive analog broadcasts from the low-power stations on their island, with a digital conversion scheduled at a later date.
See KGMB9 to begin digital TV testing on Monday in the Honolulu Advertiser for more information.
