Updating the 404 page

As I prepare for tonight’s maintenance cycle, I read http://alistapart.com/articles/perfect404/ and decided to change this site’s 404 page.

That’s the page users should receive if they mistype a URL in the address field of their web browser.

That’s also the page that users should reach if they’ve clicked a bad link that I added to an internal page. That’s happened a couple of times this past week. (Shame on me!)

My 404 page now lists all of the static pages on this site. Many of those pages are listed at the top menu, by the site’s title.

There’s also a few helpful tips.

The page can be found at http://billso.com/404/ if you’re using a computer. I haven’t updated my 404 page for mobile users yet, but I intend to soon.
