Music: Last night I saw The Who, or what I would describe as Who’s Left. This was The Who’s first appearance here in 37 years, I am told. Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend are still around and still great, but other musicians are filling in, including a couple of my early-80s favorites.
On the right of Daltrey, we have Pete’s brother Simon Townshend. I remember Simon from his 1983 album Sweet Sound. On the left is bassist Pino Palladino, who still plays like he’s the lead, which is essential to fill in for John Entwhistle. Pino did get a few seconds of glory last night during the bass run in “My Generation”. He was on Jools Hollands’ first album and in Paul Young’s band. Zak
Starkey was on drums, but without Keith Moon, the property damage was minimal.
But it was a damn good show. We got most of the major Who songs, plus half an hour of Tommy. The demographics of the audience skewed old, with many examples of just plain weird clothing. T-shirts were $50 apiece, so I passed on the loot. The show ended around 10 PM, as The Man needs his sleep. Concert review from the Star is here. Thanks Sam!

Sports: After all of the leaks and gaffes by the clueless Colorado legal system, Kobe’s accuser may drop the criminal case and go for a civil suit, according to CBS News. She would probably get a large settlement in a civil case, where the standards for conviction are lower. They would still have to talk about her personal life, though.

USA: Doctors adjust to new computerized recordkeeping systems, as hospitals find some cost savings. This is one good use for a Tablet PC and PDAs, I suppose.

Sports: Ex-UGA QB Qunicy Carter has been released by the Dallas Cowboys. Reports indicate he tested positive for an illegal substance. With ex-Buc and perrenial washout Vinny Testaverde as their starting QB, we can write off the Cowboys season right now. Unless they buy another QB first; the Cowboys are the Yankees of football, after all.
