USA: Newsday.com — Elec­tion 2004: “Kerry con­tin­ued an unortho­dox role for the man at the top of the ticket, lob­bing direct crit­i­cisms at Bush. Such attacks are nor­mally left for a run­ning mate. ‘The prob­lems of the mid­dle class are mul­ti­ply­ing, and it’s clear the only way to solve the prob­lem is to sub­tract George Bush,’ he said.”
