Aim­ing to out­wit the swindlers, they invent elab­o­rate and often out­ra­geous iden­ti­ties (Venus de Milo, Lord Vader) under which they engage the con men, try­ing to humil­i­ate them and, more impor­tant, waste the grifters’ time and resources.”
