US: I got a laugh read­ing AlterNet’s piece on high school secu­rity:

High school stu­dents inter­viewed across the coun­try are say­ing the same thing: ‘They’re mak­ing schools like pris­ons.’ And it’s not hard to see their point.

Like spam, this is a tragedy of the com­mons issue. A minor­ity of high school stu­dents bring items to school that don’t belong there, so the school starts search­ing every­one. That’s their job — to pro­tect the major­ity of stu­dents who just want to get through the school day with­out extra hassle.
